I edit my personal HDV (mpeg2@1080i) videos with Win7 for over a year. Cinelerra is the soft which gives possibility to work on so called proxy files. It works fine.

M2TS is a Sony high definition video file type. M2TS files are raw AVCHD videos recorded using Sony's camcorders, such as the HDR-SR1 and HDR-SR5 models.
